This Week In Washington
On Tuesday, the Senate Appropriations Committee released a bill summary outlining Republican funding priorities for fiscal year 2021. The bill includes a $433 million dollar increase in discretionary funding for the Department of Education, totaling $73.2 billion. Also included is an increase in Pell Grant funding and an increase in funding to strengthen Historically Black Colleges and Universities and other Minority Serving Institutions. There are currently no plans to mark-up the appropriations bill. Instead, Senate appropriators will begin negotiations with the House on a funding package to avoid a government shutdown on December 11.
