AccessLex Summer Webinar Series

The pandemic initiated a seismic shift in J.D. program delivery from mostly in-person to almost entirely online. To understand how law students experienced this temporary shift and perceived its impact on their education outcomes, AccessLex partnered with Gallup for a study. This presentation will dive into key findings from our research, including the types of students who had more positive remote J.D. experiences, as well as implications for longer-term initiatives to broaden online learning opportunities in legal education.

This session will provide an overview of the recently completed AccessLex/LSSSE Bar Exam Success Initiative. The study used data from more than 4,400 law school graduates to primarily examine the extent to which student engagement influences academic and bar exam performance. It also examined how pre-admission factors and law school GPA influence bar passage. With an eye toward the future, which includes a new UBE within the next 4–5 years, we will discuss the study’s relevance given the adjustments to bar exam administrations and bar admittance policies made in response to COVID-19. We will also share the study’s key findings and what they mean for law schools and law students, both present and future, as well as future research efforts.

Panelists will report on their research and on-the-ground observations regarding interventions that assist law students in furthering their academic and bar exam success goals. They will share information on the type of data being collected and how it is being analyzed to indicate what is and what is not working, and what allows law schools and law professors to help law students thrive when it comes to high stakes outcomes. Panelists will also discuss next steps and future research questions to help students succeed post-graduation.
