Higher Ed Policy Roundup: Vol. 8 - Issue 19

Policy and Advocacy

This Week in Washington

Late last week, Republican leaders of both congressional education committees sent a letter to Education Department (ED) Secretary Miguel Cardona demanding that ED comply with requests from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) investigation of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) rollout. Recall that the FAFSA has been plagued with issues stemming from delays due to the implementation of the FAFSA Simplification Act. The GAO, which was urged by Republican lawmakers to open an investigation into the rollout, claims that it is facing delays because it hasn’t received requested information from ED. In their letter, the education committee leaders request that ED comply with the GAO request for materials by June 7.
