The Damon J. Keith Pre-Law Summer Institute (DJK Summer Institute) is developed for students from underrepresented backgrounds who are interested in pursuing a legal career. The program is delivered over four weeks in the summer. The program is open to college students who have either graduated from a Detroit Public Schools Community District high school or are current residents of Detroit.

During the summer of 2021, the DJK Summer Institute served 19 students. Over the course of the virtual program, students’ LSAT scores increased by an average of eight (8) points on practice exams. In addition, students developed a greater understanding of the expectations of law school and how to successfully apply to the law school of their choice.
