Academic and Bar Success

Program: Bar Success Intervention Grant Program
Grantee: Willamette University School of Law
Grant Amount: $233,287

Summary of Grant Outcomes

This grant funded an investigation into how structured cohort environments with comprehensive support resources can improve bar exam outcomes for first-time examinees. Over the two-year cohort program, Willamette observed significant improvements in engagement and bar passage rates, particularly in the second summer. In particular, the second cohort demonstrated higher participation, better resource utilization, and a stronger sense of community. Participants benefited from the Helix program’s structure and support, including live facilitation and wraparound services, which enhanced engagement with financial, housing, and counseling resources. Overall, there were notable improvements: there was marked improvement in bar passage in the second cohort, underscoring the value of structured, supportive environments in bar preparation.
