Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Distinguished Law Student Writing Competition

The CLA Diversity, Inclusion and Outreach (DIOr) Committee seeks to recognize law student authors of exceptional literary works which advance the understanding and pursuit of increasing diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession. 

Prompt: Explain why a diverse and inclusive bar is important for equality, justice, and the rule of law. Pls. include research and reputable sources, as appropriate. You may also choose to include a personal or narrative perspective, including how you have been affected by a DEI program or policy.

Eligibility Requirements:

Current law student at an ABA-accredited law school

Actively enrolled and in good standing

Current student member of the California Lawyers Association (CLA).

Award Description:

-First place: $2,500 USD. Runner up: $1,500 USD. Winning co-authors shall split the corresponding monetary prize; and/or
-Recognition of awardees by posting names and link to winning submissions on the CLA’s public websites and/or social media accounts; and/or
-Publication and/or reprinting of the winning submissions; and/or
-Recognition of the award recipients at a CLA-sponsored event, where the monetary prize will be presented. Travel, transportation, accommodations, meeting and all other costs not included.
