AccessLex Institute Awards Grant to AALS for Research and Support of Law Schools and Deans

Washington, D.C. (May 7, 2019) — The Association of American Law Schools (AALS) has been awarded a grant from AccessLex Institute for up to $375,000 to support research on legal education and professional development for law schools and deans.

The three-year grant will support research conducted by AALS for the benefit of law school students, faculty, deans and the legal profession. In addition, AccessLex will provide sponsorship support for the Deans’ Forum at the AALS Annual Meeting, where law school leaders discuss current and emerging issues in legal education and connect with one another on ways to address the challenges they face. Part of the AccessLex award is in the form of a challenge grant that will match contributions from law firms and others outside the legal academy in an effort to improve services to the Association’s nearly 200 member and fee-paid institutions.

“AALS is deeply grateful for the support and visionary leadership from AccessLex Institute for investing in the institutions that are foundational to the rule of law,” said Judith Areen, Executive Director of AALS. “This multi-year grant will benefit both the nation’s law schools and their deans. We look forward to enhancing excellence in legal education together.”

“AccessLex Institute is committed to identifying ways we can positively influence legal education and the legal community on the whole,” stated Christopher P. Chapman, AccessLex Institute President and Chief Executive Officer. “Offering these grant resources to bolster the very important work being done by AALS embodies that commitment.”
