Below is a step-by-step description of the LexPostBacc referral and slot reservation processes:
- Identify an applicant for possible referral to the program.
- The ideal candidate for LexPostBacc is an applicant who meets the LexScholars eligibility criteria (listed below) and is judged via your admission review process as possessing potential for law school success if given the benefit of additional preparation and exposure.
- After identifying an applicant, verify that the applicant meets the LexScholars eligibility criteria.
Referred applicants must:- Have an LSAT score no higher than the 25th percentile among the national pool of test takers (as reflected on the CAS report)
- Possess a bachelor’s degree or will receive a bachelor’s degree by August 2026
- Have not previously enrolled in a J.D. program at an ABA-approved law school
- Commit to enroll at the referring law school, upon successful completion of the program
- If the applicant meets the eligibility requirements, determine if you will require the applicant to retake the LSAT.
- Applicants who are required to retake the LSAT will receive a full-length Kaplan online LSAT course.
- Communicate the deferred admission and scholarship offers to the applicant (see sample verbiage below).
- In that communication:
- The offers should be framed as an opportunity for the applicant to join the law school in fall 2027.
- Permission should be sought from the applicant to allow their contact information and LSAT/UGPA data to be shared with AccessLex. Applicants should be given a deadline of preferably no more than 10 days from the date of communication to grant this permission.
- The grant of permission does not constitute the applicant’s acceptance of the deferred admission offer. It allows AccessLex to contact the applicant with more information about the offer and the process of acceptance.
- If the applicant does not grant permission to be contacted by AccessLex, the deferred admission offer is effectively forfeited by the applicant. Forfeited offers may be reassigned to other applicants.
- In that communication:
- If the applicant grants permission to be contacted by AccessLex, forward the applicant’s information to AccessLex using the LexPostBacc Applicant Referral Form.
- The deadline for law schools to refer applicants is May 15, 2026.
- After receipt of the applicant’s information, AccessLex will contact the applicant via email to provide further information about LexPostBacc.
- Correspondence will include information about the benefits of the program and the general structure of the curriculum, including how their progress will be assessed.
- Applicants will be required to complete the LexPostBacc Application no later than May 24, 2026. Schools may set earlier deadlines, taking care to give applicants sufficient time to consider the offer
- Applicants will receive the application via a personalized, secure link sent to their email, after the referral is submitted.
- After receipt and review of an applicant’s LexPostBacc Application, AccessLex will forward to the applicant a LexPostBacc Participation Agreement.
- The agreement will require the applicant to acknowledge their understanding that the offer is binding upon acceptance and that they must comply with general seat reservation requirements (e.g., payment of seat deposit) set by your law school.
- The default deadline for applicants to sign the Participation Agreement will be 14 days after it is forwarded to them. Law schools may, however, set earlier deadlines, taking care to give adequate time to consider the offer.
- After receipt of an applicant’s signed Participation Agreement, AccessLex will communicate to the applicant and to the referring law school that the applicant’s program slot has been reserved and that they are officially a LexPostBacc Scholar.
- This reservation is subject to the applicant’s compliance with any seat reservation requirements set by the law school. It is important that referring law schools inform AccessLex as soon as possible if an applicant has forfeited or is no longer eligible to accept a LexPostBacc offer.
- LexPostBacc will begin in July 2026 and end in May 2027.
- Roughly every five weeks, AccessLex will forward to a designated contact person a report detailing the eligibility status and curricular progress of each applicant the school referred to the program.
